Common Treatments
When it comes to the position of your teeth, there are many issues that can be treated with braces.
Some of the most common of these include:
Crowding: when there is not enough space for the teeth to grow straight.
Open Bite: where the front teeth don’t touch
Deep Bite: where the top front teeth cover most of the bottom front teeth
Missing Teeth: loss of teeth due to tooth decay or trauma.
Underbite: where the top front teeth are behind the bottom front teeth
Spaces: gaps between your teeth
Overbite: where the top front teeth protrude
Dentofacial Orthopedics
Surgical Orthodontics
Surgical orthodontics is similar to regular orthodontics in that braces are still needed. Braces are used to position the teeth in a location that allows for the greatest improvement with surgery. Sometimes this involves the removal of teeth, but in any situation, braces are worn before and after surgery. After the surgery, braces stabilize the surgery and move the teeth into their final location.
Generally, surgery is not performed until you have completely stopped growing because we need to ensure that the jaws will not continue to move after surgery. Typically this is around 16-17 years old for girls and 18-19 years old for boys, however, we can verify this with x-rays taken in consecutive years.
Invisalign & Invisalign Teen
Dr. San Martín is a certified Invisalign™ and Invisalign teen™ provider!
Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment in which you do not wear traditional braces. With Invisalign, you wear a series of clear aligners. These aligners are changed every few weeks, at the doctor’s direction, and little-by-little they gently move your teeth into the desired position. The aligners are not only invisible, they are removable. This allows you to eat and drink all the foods which you normally ate!
